Pocket Plasma Dab Pen Review: Apparently Nobody Told This Little Thing It Was Supposed to Be Small

There are compact dab pens, there are powerful dab pens, and then there are devices that apparently looked at those two categories and said, “Why choose?”

That brings us to the HoneyStick Pocket Plasma Portable Dab Pen, a strangely muscular little concentrate vaporizer built around a 950mAh battery with up to 20 watts of output. Despite that battery capacity, the unit measures only about 4.25 inches tall, 1 inch wide and 0.7 inch deep.

More importantly, this isn’t a one-trick wax pony.

Remove the supplied concentrate atomizer and the same battery becomes a standard 510-thread cart battery, allowing it to power compatible prefilled oil cartridges as well. HoneyStick specifically markets the device for both concentrate atomizers and 510 vape carts.

So, as somebody who appreciates dabs but does not necessarily appreciate carrying a tackle box worth of vaping equipment around, I was interested.

In practical terms, this feels less like a traditional low-powered vape pen and more like a miniature concentrate vaporizer that happens to have been squeezed into pen dimensions.

And I appreciate that. Nobody buys a dab pen hoping for the vaping equivalent of lukewarm soup.

This is exactly the kind of adjustment I want on a portable dab pen: enough control to noticeably change the experience without requiring me to navigate a menu system that looks like I’m programming a thermostat.

3.2V – The Flavor Setting

This is where I’d begin with flavorful concentrates.

Lower voltage generally provides a gentler experience and gives you more opportunity to appreciate the concentrate instead of simply asking it to leave the chamber immediately.

This sounds like a minor feature until you’ve dealt with thicker concentrate sitting inside a cold atomizer.

Preheating gently warms the material before the main draw, helping prepare thicker concentrate without immediately attacking it at full voltage. And because the preheat operates at a relatively low 2.0V, it makes sense as a warming stage rather than an excuse to cook your chamber unattended.

It is especially useful after your pen has been sitting somewhere cool. Think of it as letting your dab stretch before exercising.

That’s an important feature because one of my complaints about miniature concentrate pens is miniature concentrate chambers.

They’re portable right up until loading them requires tweezers, surgical lighting and the emotional stability of a bomb technician.

The Plasma’s chamber gives you a practical loading area while keeping the overall device impressively compact.

Quartz is also a logical material for a concentrate-focused vaporizer because it works well in applications where clean flavor and rapid heating are priorities.

Loading Advice

Don’t mistake “large chamber” for “please stuff this thing like a Thanksgiving turkey.”

Moderate loads tend to be easier to vaporize cleanly and make the chamber much easier to maintain.

Put concentrate toward the heating area instead of coating every available wall.

Your future self, holding a cleaning swab, will appreciate the restraint.

Pocket Size: The “Pocket” Part Isn’t Marketing Fiction

Portability Score: 9.8/10

At approximately 108mm tall, 26mm wide and 18mm deep, the Pocket Plasma earns its name. This is what makes the battery capacity particularly impressive.

A 950mAh battery doesn’t sound outrageous until you remember we’re discussing a device barely over four inches tall.

It’s small enough for a pocket without giving up the reassuring feel of a properly constructed vaporizer. And HoneyStick uses a 304 stainless-steel body, so the device has more substance than the featherweight plastic hardware floating around the bargain end of the vape market.

Small does have one disadvantage: compact concentrate devices inevitably need occasional cleaning. Portable doesn’t mean maintenance-free.

Unfortunately, engineers have yet to invent the atomizer that cleans itself while complimenting your life choices.

The Pocket Plasma uses a magnetic mouthpiece and chamber-locking design, rather than making you unscrew the mouthpiece every time you want access to the concentrate chamber.

This seems like a small design decision. It isn’t.

If you’ve used concentrates long enough, you understand that threads and sticky extract occasionally develop a relationship that is much more committed than you’d like. Magnetic access makes loading and checking the chamber easier.

1. Pop it off.
2. Load.
3. Put it back.

Continue with your regularly scheduled bad decisions. That’s how portable hardware should work.

Surprise: It’s Also a Seriously Capable Weed Pen Battery

This is probably my favorite Pocket Plasma feature.

The wax atomizer itself connects through the battery’s standard 510 thread. Remove it and you can attach a compatible 510-thread oil cartridge instead. HoneyStick says the battery supports cartridges ranging from common smaller sizes through larger cart formats, subject of course to cartridge dimensions and compatibility.

Going somewhere and feel like concentrates? Use included wax chamber.

Want the convenience of a prefilled oil cartridge instead? No second device required. Remove the concentrate atomizer, attach your cart, select an appropriate voltage and you’re back in business. Suddenly your dab pen becomes a weed pen battery!

This dual-purpose design makes the Pocket Plasma far more useful than a dedicated wax-only pen. It also explains why that 950mAh battery makes so much sense. As a 510 cart battery, 950mAh is generous capacity, particularly compared with many ultra-thin pen batteries.

One Important Cart Tip

Just because the battery can reach 4.0V doesn’t mean your cartridge wants 4.0V. Many oil cartridges perform better at lower voltages, particularly when you’re prioritizing flavor.

Your cart will tell you what it likes. Usually by tasting good instead of tasting like somebody toasted the furniture.

The Pocket Plasma makes the most sense for the concentrate user who wants serious portable performance without committing to an e-rig-sized device.

It’s particularly attractive if you switch between loose concentrates and prefilled 510 cartridges.

Instead of carrying:

• one wax pen,
• one cart battery,
• another charger,
• another backup battery,
• and eventually a backpack because apparently vaping has become an expedition…

you can use one 950mAh 510-thread platform for both jobs.

I’d especially recommend looking at the Pocket Plasma if your priorities are:

• portable concentrate vaping;
• strong battery capacity;
• variable voltage;
• preheating thicker concentrates;
• a relatively large quartz wax chamber;
• standard 510 compatibility;
• using both wax and oil cartridges;
• USB-C charging;
• and avoiding full-size dab-rig hardware while away from home.

Who Might Want Something Else?

If your primary goal is huge water-filtered dabs at home, get an e-rig.

That’s what e-rigs are for.

Likewise, if you only use prefilled 510 oil cartridges and never touch wax, a smaller dedicated cartridge battery may be simpler and even more compact.

And if you want extremely precise voltage adjustments in tiny increments, the Plasma’s three-level system may feel a little limited.

But that’s also the point of this device: it isn’t trying to replace an advanced box mod, desktop vaporizer and glass rig simultaneously.

It is trying to give you a surprisingly capable dab pen that fits in your pocket.

At that job, it’s very good.

Final Verdict: A Dab Pen That Moonlights as a Weed Cart Battery

There are gadgets that call themselves multipurpose because the marketing department discovered adjectives.

The HoneyStick Pocket Plasma Dab Pen has a more convincing argument.

Its combination of a 950mAh battery, 20W maximum output, quartz concentrate chamber, three voltage settings, low-voltage preheat, USB-C charging and standard 510 connection creates a portable vape platform that genuinely makes sense for both concentrates and cartridges.

For me, the 510 compatibility is what pushes the Plasma from “good wax pen” into “device I’d actually carry.”

I can load concentrate into the quartz atomizer when I’m in the mood for a proper dab-style session. When convenience wins—as it frequently does because I am human—I can swap the atomizer for a compatible oil cartridge and use the same 950mAh battery as a powerful weed pen.

That’s excellent hardware economy.

Is it an e-rig replacement? – No.

Does it offer laboratory-grade temperature adjustment? – Also no.

But it manages to pack serious concentrate capability and very respectable 510 thread battery functionality into a 4.25-inch device without becoming complicated.

And sometimes the best vape isn’t the device with the longest specification sheet.

It’s the one you actually want in your pocket.
